The Rural Fire Prevention and Control Program is a project focused on the safety and health of employees and the community in several municipalities in Minas Gerais and Goiás. The idea of the program is to reduce the alarming numbers of fires in the area during the drought. One of the measures adopted by Companhia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool (CMAA) is 100% mechanized harvesting, eliminating the use of fire at any stage of the process, and the use of satellite technology to identify fire outbreaks, coordinating control actions in partnership with the Emergency Mutual Aid Plan (PAME), under the coordination of the Fire Department.
Constant actions are carried out to promote the dissemination of a prevention culture through videos, animations, jingles, in addition to annual workshops. Also, CMAA monitors and controls fires using advanced technologies such as surveillance cameras and monitoring equipment temperature. We offer brigade team training and emergency simulations to guarantee the health and safety of workers and local communities. The initiative was recognized nationally by Revista Proteção as the best case in Brazil and the southeast region in the Occupational Health and Safety Management category, in the 2022/23 harvest.
